Egremont beat Leeds Met to move into Challenge Cup second round

Egremont Rangers are a step closer to making it to the third round of the prestigious Carnegie Challenge Cup – and a possible date with a professional side.

Rangers took on Leeds Met on Saturday in the first round proper and racked up a 30-6 victory to send them into the second round – and just one win away from the third.

Unfortunately, Glasson did not fare as well in the National Cup, when they went out at the hands of Queensbury 28-14.

It was closer at half time when Rangers trailed by just 10-6. Glasson competed well but Queensbury struck them hard during a 10-minute spell in the second half when they scored three tries to clinch the game.

Glasson’s points came from tries from Greg Rowley, John Fidler and Keenan Winter, with Thomas Dixon adding a goal.

Seaton and Wath Brow Hornets clashed in a friendly at the weekend, in preparation for the new summer season.

It was Seaton who came out on top 24-12 after a hard-fought contest.

Richard George led the way for Rangers with two tries, to go with one apiece for Miguel Blanco-Charters and Tom McGeen, while Duncan Moyle added four goals.

Seaton were 18-0 ahead but then the Hornets’ young players showed great character to fight back and make a contest out of the game.

Peter Caddy replied with a hat-trick of tries for Wath Brow and he was also one of their star players, along with Charlie Thomlinson.

For Seaton, Richard George was outstanding, while Ricky Wright had a good game in the pack.
